MONITORING THE WATER QUALITY OF THE SEBKHA OF BEN GHAYADHA
Client : 5EABG
Date : 2023 - 2025
Funding : Government Budget
The study is part of the restoration of the Sebkhat of Ben Ghayadha in Mahdia and its banks with the aim of limiting the various forms of nuisances that can affect the body of water and ensuring a clean environment to provide residents and local residents with a better and more pleasant living environment.
Lakes and reservoirs generally suffer from an excessive supply of water and sediment from upstream of its watershed and direct discharges from rainwater and treated water networks. The increase in sedimentation in this environment tends to modify its bathymetry, contributes to the proliferation of aquatic plants and harms recreational activities.
Scope of works
The mission aims to monitor the physicochemical and biological quality of the water and sediments of the Sebkhet Ben Ghayadha. The monitoring of water quality covers a period of thirty (30) months and the program includes:
- Physicochemical and bacteriological control of water quality and its inputs;
- Control of phytoplankton in the lake, particularly species known for their ichthyotoxicity;
- Control of the benthic macrofauna of the vertebrate and invertebrate lake;
- Control and zoning of the benthic vegetation of the lake;
- Control and specific quantification of the ichthyic fauna of the lake;
- Control of the quality and zoning of the sediments of the lake.
