Faced with the challenge of sustainable development, the development and operation of urban roads must be rethought, in the sense of giving them other urban functions, by adapting their profile crosswise to the needs of urban life (sharing of roads, quality of city life, etc. while prescribing vehicle traffic requirements.

The AUGT undertook to carry out the study on the standardization of urban roads in Greater Tunis, with the aim of better defining this problem linked to standardization - classification and design -, and to the sharing of road space between the different users, and to propose a standardization and reference tool for actors involved in the planning and development of urban roads in Greater Tunis..


Services provided

Phase 1: Diagnosis and analysis of the municipal road network

  • Analysis of the institutional framework and existing regulations governing the urban road project, with identification of dysfunctions.
  • Examination and study of all the practices and actions undertaken at the level of urban roads and their environment,
  • Proposal for a hierarchy of urban roads in Greater Tunis with functional classification
  • Presentation of a benchmarking of Mediterranean countries from the point of view of parameters and classes of routes

Phase 2: Proposal for a classification, guide and grid of urban roads

  • Presentation of the elements at the base of the dimensioning of urban roads
  • Proposal of specific recommendations for development by road class

Establishment of a guide and a design grid for urban roads
