MODERNIZATION PROJECT OF IRRIGATED PUBLIC PERIMETERS OF THE LOW VALLEY OF MEDJERDA IN MANOUBA PHASE 2 SECTION 1 (1075 HA)
Client : Agriculture Regional Directorate Manouba
Date : 2017 - 2021
Funding : KFW
Project description:
The irrigated public perimeters developed from 1950 to 1960 on the lands of the Lower Medjerda Valley (BVM) cover an area of approximately 27,000 hectares. These very fertile perimeters were originally designed using gravity irrigation by "water tours". The hydraulic infrastructure of the BVM is becoming more and more dilapidated, which constitutes a major constraint to the intensification and development of the irrigated perimeters of the region. This results in a deterioration of the management and operation conditions of irrigated public areas.
With the objective of rationalizing the use of hydraulic resources, intensifying the development and developing self-management of irrigation systems by associations of irrigators (Groups of Agricultural Development), the Ministry of Agriculture, represented by the CRDA of Manouba has set up a program to modernize the old public irrigated areas that have been operational for around 60 years in the Lower Medjerda Valley.
As part of Tranche 1 of this program, a first phase started in 2005 covering the modernization of 4,318 ha in the Governorate of Manouba. The project concerns phase 2 and covers the modernization of 1,075 ha. The three sectors concerned are Battane / Ben N’fissa, Mehrine North and Zouitina North and South.
